NewsPolicy The prime minister has committed the government to legislating on agency workers’ rights in the next parliamentary session but has not confirmed when they would look for the legislation to be implemented. Market The Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG Report on Jobs has shown an increase in the number of permanent and temporary job appointments during August. Trends / PracticeIncomes Data Services has said that it is unlikely that private sector employers will impose a second year of wage freezes. The Interim Management Association’s Ipsos MORI report has shown that public sector interim management placements have overtaken private sector ones for the first time since recording started in 2006. CompaniesAdecco looks close to completing its acquisition of technical recruiter Spring, with the court meeting and general meeting to approve the takeover taking place on 30 September 2009. Network Group Holdings has reported a loss of £905,000 after tax for the six months to 31 May 2009. Hays has reported a 43% drop in profits to £151m for the 12 months to the end of June following a sharp fall in net fees. Robert Walters reported a fall in revenue from £170m to £142m for the six months to the end of June. Legal DevelopmentsHogarth Davies Lloyd is suing the London division of Nomura over allegations that it has failed to pay a £90m bill for HR work done in connection with attracting staff from Lehman Brothers when the bank collapsed last year.
